Position: Public Services Librarian

Job Overview:
The Public Services Librarian is responsible for providing exceptional library services, primarily focused on public services, to patrons in accordance with the library's mission and goals. This role involves managing and coordinating various public service activities, assisting patrons in locating and utilizing library resources, and promoting library programs and services.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide exemplary reference and research assistance to library patrons, both in person and remotely, by utilizing a wide range of print and electronic resources.
2. Develop and maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the library's collection, including databases, digital resources, and other reference materials.
3. Collaborate with library staff to develop, implement, and promote innovative and engaging library programs and services for all age groups.
4. Assist patrons in navigating the library's catalog and online resources, providing guidance on search strategies and information retrieval techniques.
5. Conduct instructional sessions and workshops on information literacy and research skills to support the academic and lifelong learning needs of library users.
6. Manage and oversee the library's circulation desk, including checking materials in and out, collecting fines, and resolving circulation-related issues.
7. Assist patrons with technology-related inquiries, including troubleshooting basic computer and software problems, internet access, and other library equipment.
8. Collaborate with other library departments to ensure seamless delivery of services, including interlibrary loan requests, collection development, and special projects.
9. Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in library services, technology, and information literacy, and apply this knowledge to enhance the quality of service provided.
10. Participate in professional development activities, such as attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions, to enhance professional knowledge and skills.
Qualifications:
1. Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
2. Proven experience working in a library setting, with a focus on public services, preferably in an academic or research library.
3. Strong knowledge of library systems, online databases, reference tools, and emerging library technologies.
4. Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional customer service and effectively assist diverse populations of library users.
5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with individuals of all backgrounds and ages.
6. Proficiency in conducting thorough and accurate research using a variety of resources and search strategies.
7. Familiarity with information literacy concepts and instructional techniques.
8. Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
9. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
10. Flexibility and adaptability to meet changing user needs and library priorities.
